What is next for Paul Pogba's future?

Paul Pogba, who is eager to return to the green field, continues to search for a new club. Teams interested in Pogba have been discussed since his contract with Juventus was terminated.

What happened?

Pogba was initially banned for four years after failing a doping test following a Serie A match against Udinese in August 2023. The ban was later reduced to just 18 months, meaning the Frenchman could return to competitive action in March.

So what does the future hold for the player who will be 32 when he finally returns to football? Which clubs would like to have him in their team right now? Let’s take a look!

Manchester United

Pogba has a special place in his heart for Manchester United having been brought up through the English giants’ youth academy. Having returned to the Red Devils in 2016 after his first spell with Juventus, Pogba could do so again after his second spell with Juventus.

Pogba’s return to Old Trafford for a club-record fee of €105.00m in 2016 has been remembered for some bright moments, but he left the club in 2022. The France international could perhaps get another chance if he can impress new manager Ruben Amorim.

Inter Miami

Pogba has been training exclusively in Miami since his suspension was reduced to 18 months. It is the home of David Beckham-owned Inter Miami.

The team already features stars such as Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Sergio Busquets, and Jordi Alba, and the Frenchman could be added to that list.

With the 2025 MLS season set to begin in late February, Pogba’s return to the pitch in March could be the perfect timing for Inter Miami.

Al-Ittihad

Rumours of a possible transfer for Pogba to the Saudi Arabian Pro League have intensified after the Frenchman was spotted in Saudi Arabia in July 2023, sharing photos at Al-Ittihad facilities.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claimed that Pogba was offered a massive €100 million per season by Al-Ittihad at the time.

However, that deal never happened. A return to football could spark renewed interest in the World Cup winner, but this time he is likely to receive a much lower salary than the initial offer.

Marseille

A return to Pogba’s home country of France could be an attractive option for the player. He has been tipped by former Juventus and France teammate Patrice Evra to consider a move to Marseille in Ligue 1 after his contract is terminated.

Pogba has also said he is open to the idea and has not ruled out a return to France to revive his career after serving his suspension.

Fenerbahçe

The star player has also been linked with a surprise transfer to Fenerbahçe in the Trendyol Süper Lig. Fenerbahçe is currently coached by Jose Mourinho, the man who took Pogba to Manchester United in 2016. So reuniting with a familiar face could help revive the Frenchman's career. It is also said that Fenerbahçe's arch-rival Galatasaray is also interested in Pogba.

We should also mention that the Trendyol Süper Lig has become a "second chance" league for former Serie A stars such as Victor Osimhen, Mauro Icardi, Edin Dzeko, Sofyan Amrabat, and Dries Mertens.

Isn't there a possibility of Inter Miami?

According to ESPN, although Pogba is thought to prefer MLS, the star player still intends to prove that he is a good midfielder in Europe.

Removed Saudi Arabia from the possible choices

For the experienced player who prefers to continue his career in one of the five major leagues such as England, Germany, Italy, Spain or France, Saudi Arabia is not an option for now.

Wants to return to the National Team

It has been reported that the 31-year-old midfielder wants to prove himself again and also wants to return to the French national team.

Manager Didier Deschamps is expected to call Pogba back up to the national team if he still shows that he is at a good level.

For this, the 1.91-meter star will need to join a competitive club and play regularly. Several clubs are currently ready to give Pogba a chance and are in contact with his representatives.
