City to Make Haaland Premier League’s Highest-Paid Player

Manchester City, who wanted to extend Erling Haaland’s contract, which would expire in 2027, to 2029, made the Norwegian footballer an offer he could not refuse.

Premier League giants Manchester City are preparing to pay big money for the Norwegian striker, making him the richest footballer in the Premier League.

£500,000 a week

According to The Mirror, City have almost convinced goal machine Haaland to sign a new contract as the club look set to make him the richest player in the Premier League. City are said to have made the Norwegian forward an incredible offer of £500,000 a week.

That is significantly more than the current highest-paid player in the league, Kevin De Bruyne’s £400,000 a-week salary.

It is important to notice that Haaland is already among the Premier League's highest-paid players, alongside Kevin De Bruyne and Mohamed Salah.

Big Picture

City officials recently met with Haaland’s family and Brazilian agent Rafaela Pimenta. They held positive discussions about the new deal, which if signed would tie the player to the end of the 2028-29 season. The striker currently has two-and-a-half years left on his current contract, which he signed when he joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2022.

Changing the release clause

The Mirror also adds that there is another important aspect to the terms of the new deal for the player. The 24-year-old has a £150m release clause in his current contract which the club want to remove from the new agreement. However, the player’s representatives want it to remain. It has been reported that both parties are open to making the release clause in the contract £200m.

Unlucky days for City

Haaland is set to return to action for Pep Guardiola's side on Saturday as the defending champions look to end a four-game losing streak in their Premier League clash with Tottenham.
